Paysend's Remote First Strategy
At Paysend we're creating "Money for the Future" and simultaneously building the "Future of Work" by enabling a remote-first, high-performance culture for Paysenders to perform and enjoy their best work.
Our remote-first strategy is a fundamental mindset shift that emphasises equitability in access, ensuring that there are no advantages or disadvantages in working remotely. In order to succeed we will ensure that all channels of communication are open and accessible, adapt our performance standards, and ensure to always champion, when possible, in-person team-bonding opportunities. Paradoxically, we will also be creating community hubs by key locations, not offices, but just a very different set up than the previous working environment standard.
For Paysend, a remote-first mindset starts from a very different position. Aside from building a remote-first communication and collaboration infrastructure, performance standards that exist in today’s workplaces, which tend to be measured on a set of inputs, will need to change as colleagues become remote, and focus on hiring and retaining the right people who we trust to accomplish their tasks.
We will encourage leaders to manage by output and productivity. We would much prefer our employees to focus on the quality of work generated and the results of that output rather than time spent on any given task. In this environment, high performers will be judged on results wherever and however they are performed rather than overall initiatives undertaken.
One of the challenges that we will face in building a remote-first culture is that every Paysender may not be able to commit themselves to this opportunity. Due to personal challenges, location difficulties or even personal preference, not all colleagues may be able to embrace a remote-first focus and may require an in-person community hub.
To do so, Paysend will create flexible in-person community hubs by key locations rather than having large offices. This will give Paysenders a series of workspaces where they can come and go as they please and meet-up with colleagues or clients at their leisure.
To conclude, in this rapidly changing environment I would encourage as many employers as possible to permanently think about delivering to a remote-first strategy.
Just remember to:
Create open and accessible communication channels
Adapt your performance standards and evaluations to the new environment
Continue to engage in remote team-bonding experiences
Provide an in-person community hub presence
Create a mindset that technology will enable communication and collaboration
